US Child Health Day – 2 oct 2017

In observance of US Child Health Day, all health professionals, organizations and agencies involved in children welfare across the United States are hosting events to raise awareness of how, as a community, we can protect and develop children’s health. Celebrating Child Health Day is indeed the perfect time for all of us, individuals and corporations alike, to ask ourselves how we contribute to the well-being of our young ones. It is our responsibility to ensure that all children are given a solid foundation to grow into healthy adults with the opportunity to live a vibrant life.

We all know that adequate nutrition is a critical part of a child’s development, not only influencing immediate growth and development, but also setting the stage for a healthy future. Proper nutrition starts during pregnancy and will have a positive influence on the infant’s immune and digestive health. Both essential to life-long health, they stem from a balanced gastrointestinal microbiota.

Research has shown the essential role played by the intestinal flora and how a change in its composition could affect individuals’ wellbeing throughout life and as early as birth. In this context, studies have been conducted to assess the effects of the administration of various strains of probiotics on  children’s health outcomes. The “Probiotics and Prebiotics Global Guidelines”, published by the World Gastroenterology Organisation1 earlier this year, confirmed the clinical efficacy of strains such as L. rhamnosus GG, Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. boulardii and more in the management of some children conditions such as acute diarrhea, infections, etc.

Lesaffre Human Care’s strong commitment to nurturing younger generations is leading the company to continuously invest in supplying the most studied and renowned probiotic strains available. Aiming at delivering science-backed, natural solutions that can support children’s health, we set extremely high quality standards for the manufacturing of our probiotic ingredients.

Safe for mothers and children, the specific strains of probiotics we are currently offering have been used for decades and have demonstrated significant health benefits.

  • Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. boulardii is one of the most documented probiotic yeast, with more than 75 clinical studies conducted in over 100 countries. Known for its digestive health benefits, its consumption has been recommended by doctors for decades to restore a balanced gastrointestinal flora, protect the gut from antibiotic associated diarrhea and prevent gastrointestinal infections.
  • Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG is a well-documented probiotic bacterium which has shown beneficial effects on both digestive and immune health. It has proven to help restore or maintain a balanced gastrointestinal flora, prevent gastrointestinal infections and protect the gut from antibiotic associated diarrhea. It is also efficient in boosting the body’s natural defenses helping to reduce the occurrence and length of common colds. This aspect is particularly important in children as they are more vulnerable and more likely than adults to catch a cold or other infection.

Providing natural, high-quality and science-backed ingredients that can be incorporated in a wide range of products designed to help treat or prevent various health issues children may face, is how, at Lesaffre Human Care, we contribute to protecting the health of younger generations.
