Lynside® Pro GI+. The new probiotic yeast from Lesaffre Human Care, clinically tested on IBS and gut comfort

Probiotic yeast Lynside® Pro GI+ has been subject of may preclinical trials and one large clinical trial. Two other clinical trials are planned by end of 2011.

Lynside® Pro GI+. A preclinical work leading to interesting results

Since 2005, preclinical trials (in-vitro, ex-vivo, in-vivo) have been ongoing with Lynside® Pro GI+. These trials have demonstrated that the strain:

  • survives transit through the gastrointestinal tract
  • has anti-inflammatory properties
  • reduces the perception of intestinal pain

In 2008, a large placebo-controlled, double-blind randomized clinical trial was conducted with an international specialist of inflammatory bowel diseases, Professor Pierre Desreumaux of the University of Lille (France). In addition to his work as a physician and researcher at the university medical center of Lille, Professor Pierre Desreumaux runs a research unit on inflammatory digestive diseases (INSERM U795), founded the Intestinfo network (inflammatory bowel disease care network) founded and runs the  “IBD Research Center” (thematic research and care center) in Lille, and co-founded DigestScience, a research foundation on the diseases of the digestive tract and nutrition, of which Lesaffre is co-founder.

In the clinical trial, 200 volunteers with symptoms of IBS took 500 mg/day of Lynside® Pro GI+ (8x109 cfu/g) for 8 weeks. The scientists showed that:

  • the intestinal pain and discomfort are greatly relieved after 4 weeks of taking Lynside® Pro GI+ (significant difference between placebo and active product)
  • Lynside® Pro GI+ has favorable effects on the bowel disorders caused by IBS (abdominal/intestinal pain and discomfort, bloating, flatulence and constipation)
  • Taking is perfectly tolerated

Some results of preclinical and clinical trials on Lynside® Pro GI+ have been already presented in scientific congresses or published in international journals. Others are to come.
